CREATING AN ALTAR
Altars not only look beautiful but they give you a daily space to connect with your intentions and manifestations, your ancestors and your spirituality. They have been used forever across all types of religions, traditions and rituals.
I have two altars at home, one that is in a private nook in my wardrobe for my hopes and dreams, the things I am calling into my life. And another that is in the main living area (pictured here) that I see as a connection point with my ancestors, that not only honours them but shows gratitude for the support and guidance they give me from the other side.
Like with all things spiritual, I err on the side of intuition and what feels good rather than following a certain set of rules and I urge you to do the same. Many people suggest having something from each of the elements, fire, earth, air & water.
Here are some of the things I do when creating my altars that might offer some inspiration;
ITEMS YOU MIGHT CONSIDER FOR YOUR ALTAR
Crystals, candles, tarot cards, flowers, incense, essential oils, jewellery, deities (mini statues), prayer beads, art, books, or photographs.
USE ITEMS THAT MEAN SOMETHING
It might be a piece of jewellery or a handkerchief from an ancestor, it might be a poem or lyrics to a song. If it helps you to connect with, or honour, a loved one that’s passed, or if it helps anchor you in a feeling you are trying to manifest for the future – that is all that matters. I always love having lavender in the mix for my grandmother.
TEND TO YOUR ALTAR DAILY
I tend to my altars daily. For my altar, I will say my affirmations out loud and sometimes hold a crystal in my hand as I visualise and feel into my body what I am calling in. For my ancestors, I might pick some fresh flowers on my walk, or light a scent I know they enjoyed. Some people might offer fresh fruit or mix in new objects.
